HCAF invites you to join us October 19-20 in South Florida for the 5th Annual Private Care Symposium, a full-day professional development program offering tactics, tidbits, and treats for home care providers.
This year's event will begin with a welcome reception on the evening of Wednesday, October 19, followed by a full day of programs and networking opportunities on Thursday, October 20. Please register to join an impressive array of industry leaders and influencers for this one-of-a-kind experience offering updates and insights on a wide range of hot topics and trends.
Michelle Rogers, Health First Home Care
This is an exciting time for the Private Duty home care sector. In this kickoff session, Michelle Rogers will welcome attendees and set the tone for a motivating, educating, and engaging program. The presentation will include an overview of our industry, issues, challenges, and statistics, as well as what HCAF can and is doing to help providers.
Nancy Allen, Solutions for Care, Inc.
In this session, attendees will learn how to comply with Florida's new nurse delegation regulations while avoiding liability for your agency and workers. Are you prepared to allow home health aides and certified nursing assistants (CNAs) to provide skilled services unsupervised in the home of a patient/client? Are your nurses comfortable with allowing a paraprofessional to provide these services under their license? While this concept may be new to Florida's home care providers, it is not a novel concept in the industry. This practice has been around for years in Texas. In the absence of knowledge and preparation, the nurse delegation regulations can be a minefield for providers to navigate.
Christina Crumbley, Tidal Healthcare Consulting, LLC
This session focuses on the top survey deficiencies for Private Duty agencies, how to make your care plans compliant to pass a surveyor's scrutiny, and how to avoid Department of Labor issues. Further, this session will examine how the $15 minimum wage for Medicaid workers will impact Private Duty agencies, guiding how to pay workers who care for patients and clients from various payers.
State Representative John Snyder (R-Palm City)
John Dalton, Optimum RTS
During a crisis, sometimes we need a reminder to nurture those fighting alongside us in the foxhole. In this engaging session, John Dalton will focus on techniques to try to keep your existing staff bonded with your company as if they were owners. We will discuss leadership styles, incentives, and other ways to empower your team and create loyalty. We will explore the costs of turnover versus the advantages of retention; provide some tools to empower your employees and create loyalty; describe some helpful financial and emotional incentives; explain how to enact discipline through disappointment; and question whether everyone is worth retaining…and then help you put it all to work for your agency!
Margherita Labson, McLabson Consult Ed
You're approaching a fork in the road. How should your agency comply with the revised Medicaid enrollment requirements? Should you apply for Medicare/Medicaid deemed status or open a nurse registry? In this session, we'll explore what criteria agency owners should consider before achieving and maintaining Medicare certification, and how accreditation fits into the equation. Margherita Labson, a home health and hospice consultant, will use her extensive accreditation experience to explain the accreditation process and requirements, the six critical questions to help you make the right choice, and provide helpful resources to guide providers.
Greg Henderson, Whirks
After Labor Day, schedules fill up with new routines and commitments. When your schedule fills up, work doesn't just disappear. Our closing session will feature Greg Henderson discussing the importance of setting boundaries when it comes to managing your work-life balance. Find out what boundary-setting responsibilities lie with employees and which should be handled by the leadership team.
